Caught on Camera : Theft At Delhi’s IGI Airport

Two employees of Air India-SATS, an airport services company, were arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing jewellery and other valuables from a woman’s bag at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while unloading luggage from an aircraft’s belly.
The accused were identified as Amit Kumar (23) and Rohit Kumar (22). The theft was reported earlier this month by a passenger of an international flight-Dubai to New Delhi. She said her valuables had gone missing from her bag after she arrived at IGI.
“A case was registered and investigations started. All suspected ground handlers and other staff of the airline were questioned. But it wasn’t of much help. Then investigations led the police to AISATS. Its manager provided the cops with CCTV footage of the aircraft’s belly. While going through the video, investigators noticed two employees of AISATS rummaging through a passenger’s bag,” said Dinesh Kumar Gupta, DCP IGI.
Investigators then zeroed in on the two suspects. The duo was identified by the ground handling company. They were then called for questioning. It was found that they had sold off the jewellery. Efforts are underway to recover the stolen articles.
