A 24-year-old woman, wife of an Army man, was allegedly set ablaze by her paramour at a mobile phone shop in Gidderbaha today.
The condition of victim, Jaspreet Kaur, a native of Bathinda, is critical as she sustained nearly 70 per cent burn injuries. She was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for treatment.
Acting on her statement given to judicial magistrate Harpreet Kaur at the local civil hospital, the police have booked her paramour, Pardeep Bansal alias Neeta (33) of Gidderbaha, for attempt to murder.
SHO Kuldeep Sharma, said, “The victim had allegedly developed relations with Neeta and the latter had rented an accommodation for her at Bathinda. She met him here today to get Rs 2 lakh which she claimed he had borrowed from her a few months ago.”
“As per her statement, Neeta called her at his friend Gauri Kumar’s mobile phone shop near the vegetable market where they had a verbal duel. Thereafter, he poured fuel on her and set her on fire,” the SHO said.
Meanwhile, some locals alleged that the woman was carrying a bottle of petrol and when the accused refused to pay she made an immolation bid.
