A drunk driver, a woman aged 79 years, drove her car into a general store and hit a 6-year-old boy in Manchester, UK. However, the boy luckily escaped with minor injuries. The video of the incident was released by the Manchester Police to create awareness about drunk driving. The drunk driver’s licence has been suspended for three years. She also had to pay penalty and do 50 hours of community service.
The boy, who escaped with only cuts and bruises, was picking some sweets just before the car smashed through the window.
At Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court, Marion Smith admitted failing to provide a sample of breath and driving without due care and attention.
Ms Smith, of Beech Walk, Leigh, was disqualified from driving for three years, told to do 50 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay costs of £170.
Sgt John Brennan of Greater Manchester Police said: “This family popped to the shop to buy some sweets yet found themselves caught up in somebody else’s selfish decision to drive while drunk.”
