Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Sikander Singh Maluka courted a controversy on Friday by allegedly threatening and abusing a cop.
Constable Kanwaljeet Singh was deputed at the gate of the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally here. It is learnt that when Maluka’s car stopped in front of the gate, the cop asked the driver to park it in the parking area. Following this, Maluka and his men allegedly manhandled the cop and also threatened him.
Kanwaljeet Singh said, “I was at the gate along with other cops. As Maluka arrived , the driver brought his car right in front of the gate. I told them that they need to park the car at the parking place and will have to walk from there. The driver didn’t stop the vehicle and almost tried to run me over. I had to jump aside to save myself.”
He alleged that Maluka came out of the vehicle and “threatened” him while the minister’s men “manhandled” him. He added that he would file a complaint in this regard with chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Maluka denied the allegations and said he did not interfere in the matter. “Cops sometimes have to stop people to perform their duties but nothing as alleged happened,” he said.
