Akalis attack Congress rally in Ajnala

Three workers of the Congress were injured in a clash that broke out at a motorcycle rally being taken out by the party in Ajnala on Sunday. While the Congress alleged that the clash was the fallout of the workers of political rival Shiroman Akali Dal (SAD) attacking its members during the rally, the SAD refuted the claim and said it was a fight that broke out between the Congress workers.
The president of the district Congress committee (rural), Gurjit Singh Aujla, said the Congress was taking out the rally when “Akali goons” attacked them. “We have filed a complaint at Ajnala police station,” he said.
When contacted, the Amritsar (rural) president of SAD, Veer Singh Lopoke, said the clash had exposed infighting within the Congress. “Akalis have nothing to do with this. It is a problem of teh Congress and teh party is falsely accusing us,” he said.
Amritsar (rural) senior superintendent of police Harkamal Preet Singh also denied that the scuffle was politically motivated or between the Congress and SAD workers. “I will say the clash was between two groups which had been at loggerheads for quite some time. We will investigate the case without any bias,” he said.
