One Arrested in Jagraon Case

Cops are yet to arrest remaining two accused who allegedly tried to strip a woman in Jagraon reportedly over a bet on Monday evening. Police registered a case following a complaint by the woman. When the victim reached near Kamal Chowk, the accused tried to strip her, but when she and the family members accompanied her raised an alarm, they ran away.Police sources said the families of the accused have a clout in the political circles. Police had registered a case against three men and arrested one of them.The trio had allegedly tried to strip a woman in the presence of her husband and minor daughter in Jagraon over a bet of Rs 8,000.The accused in the case were Ravi Kumar alias Golu of Muhalla Mukandpuri, who has been arrested, Manija of Kacha Kila and another unidentified person.Police said the incident happened at 9pm when the 34-year-old woman was out for a walk with her husband and a daughter. A case has been registered under Sections 354-B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) of the IPC.SSP Ludhiana (Rural) Upinderjeet Singh said one of the accused Ravi Kumar was arrested on Wednesday and a manhunt has been launched for the two other accused, one of whom is yet to be identified.Police officials said that the accused are aged between 20 and 25 years and would frequently harass the victim.
