Punjabi singers arrested for cheating

The police have arrested Punjabi singer Satnam Sagar and his wife Saranjit Sammi for allegedly duping ex-serviceman-singer Harbir Singh of Barring village, Jalandhar, of Rs 5.71 lakh on the assurance of getting his audio album released.

The accused demanded Rs 8 lakh, but the deal was finalised at Rs 5.71 lakh and the amount was deposited in the bank account of Saranjit.

City police SHO Inderjit Singh said the complainant alleged that neither the accused released his album “Kargil” nor they returned his money even after more than a year of the deal.

The SHO said the accused were today produced before the local judicial magistrate who sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.

The accused singer was attacked and seriously wounded by some radicals for singing an objectionable Punjabi song hurting religious sentiments a few years ago, said the SHO.
